Big Data

R Statistical Computing

Using R Programming Language, I clean, organize, and analyze large datasets. When datafiles are too large for Excel, it’s time to break out R Studio and write some code!

I use R for nearly all of my data investigations, but there are a few that were particularly interesting. For example, I used R to aggregate public health data from the New Mexico Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Analyzing a year worth of data, revealed that wealthier counties in New Mexico didn’t always have higher testing rates.

Similarly, using R to combine datasets allows for some interesting stories. For example, I used political party data and public health data to look for correlations between the political lean of state leadership and the severity of a state’s COVID-19 outbreaks.
